Kerry : The United States hopes to achieve agreement on a nuclear Iran

Washington hopes to reach agreement on Iran's nuclear program in the coming weeks , said Agence France - Presse ( AFP ) Saturday , citing United States Secretary of State John Kerry . " It is still our strong expectation that Iran and the P5 +1 in the next few weeks to reach an agreement that will benefit the world , " Kerry said as quoted by AFP . The statement came as Secretary of State started the second day of talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on nuclear issues . The meeting between Kerry , Zarif and foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton EU reportedly held at a hotel in New York . Western and United Nations have imposed sanctions against Iran over its alleged nuclear military program . Tehran argues that its nuclear development pursue purely peaceful purposes , in particular , to meet the growing energy needs . Iran and the P5 + 1, which includes Russia , France , Britain , China and the United States , plus Germany reached a tentative deal back in November 2013 deadline for a long-term agreement is November 2014 , according to RIA Novosti .
